Raasay East Coast A Walk on the Wild Side

Raasay East Coast, A Walk on the Wild Side.

Enjoyed a super days walk on the East Coast of Raasay - literally a walk on the Wild Side! The walk had everything - stunning views, lots of wildlife and even fossils!

Combine that with the tragic story of the Highland Clearances demonstrated by the poignant ruins at Hallaig, and it makes for a memorable day.

Near the North of the island is the famous Calum's Road, where crofter Calum Macleod single handedly and with basic equipment built a road to his home, over almost 20 years, hoping that new generations of people would return to the North End of Raasay. The book Calum's Road, written by Roger Hutchinson, intertwines the tragedy ot the Highland Clearances with one mans pride and vision, and is a superb read.
