Self-catering Holiday Accommodation Loch Tay near Killin Perthshire

Self-catering Holiday Accommodation, Loch Tay, near Killin, Perthshire. Katie's Cottage is a holiday cottage by Loch Tay. In this area, there are many activities to take part in. As well as walking, climbing, bird-watching, fishing, pony trekking, quad biking, 4x4, cycling and mountain biking, there is also golf and a variety of water sports to enjoy locally - canoeing, sailing, wind-surfing and even white water rafting are available at the Croft na Caber water sports centre at Kenmore. From Craggantoul, the Ben Lawers nature reserve with its rare Alpine flowers is only minutes away, and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park boundary starts at Killin (7 miles). For climbers, some of Scotland’s finest Munro peaks are close by and slightly further afield are Ben Nevis, Glen Coe and the Cairngorms. Within easy reach there are several interesting places to visit. Aberfeldy (16 miles), with its fine stone bridge over the River Tay built by General Wade in 1733, has a sports centre and indoor swimming pool and a good choice of shops and restaurants. The town hosts a popular festival of traditional games in August as well as a music festival in September. Fortingall, at the entrance to Glen Lyon, is reputed to be the birthplace of Pontius Pilate. A yew tree in the churchyard is thought to be the oldest living vegetation in Europe. The surrounding area is steeped in history: from the prehistoric stone circles to the Celtic myths and legends of Breadalbane which can be discovered at the Breadalbane Folklore Centre at Killin. The reconstructed Bronze Age Crannog at Kenmore is well worth a visit as are the castles at Blair Atholl and Weem. As Craggantoul is centrally located, excursions to Oban, Fort William, Inverness, Perth, Dundee, Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh are all within a day’s drive. There are numerous local bars and restaurants available in the area and the nearest is the Ben Lawers Hotel (2 miles) where good food is served all day during the high season.
