Walking the Tarmachan Ridge, Scotland.

A satisfying day walking on the Tarmachan Ridge, one of the best short Ridge walks in Scotland in my view. As an introduction to the munros, Meall nan Tarmachan is one of the easiest to climb with a good path starting near the Ben Lawers Visitor Centre, where ample parking is available.

There was a definite Spring feeling in the air at the start of our walk yesterday, but March in Scotland can quickly turn from Spring warmth to Wintry chill as we found out! As we came to the final steep ascent to the munro summit, two parties passed us on the way down with tales of the ferocity of the wind on the summit. We soon knew about that, but really wanted to continue along this wonderful ridge to Creag na Caillich, a craggy top seen to advantage from the Glen Lochay hills. The decision to proceed was the correct one as we enjoyed some wonderful views from the ridge, with little difficulty in the soft snow.

Retracing our steps from Creag na Caillich, we dropped into Coire Fionn Lairige and enjoyed a sunny return to the car with great views up to the ridge. Well pleased with a time of 4 hours 10 minutes considering the conditions and the overindulgence of the previous ten days!
