Fisherman John Bennett at the Sligachan Hotel Skye

Fisherman John Bennett at the Sligachan Hotel Skye.

Spoke to John Bennett who was fishing for salmon near the Sligachan Hotel on the Isle of Skye last week. In spite of heavy rain, the water was too low and no success had been had that day.

John moved to Canada from Scotland many years ago but still returns to Skye for fishing which says something about the quality of a day on Skye.

The Sligachan Hotel is a superbly situated Hotel offering accommodation of all types including a self catering bunkhouse and camping nearby.

The Wee Bunk House Kintail Lodge Hotel

The Wee Bunk House Kintail Lodge Hotel.

Not the most romantic of places to spend your 25th wedding anniversary, but The Wee Bunk House at the Kintail Lodge Hotel in Shiel Bridge is where we ended up!

By some strange coincidence, another couple arrived to stay the night and it was also their 25th wedding anniversary! Apologies to them as the decibel count was fairly high!

The Bunkhouse is basic hillwalking accommodation, whilst the Hotel itself offers a number of rooms, along with an excellent bar and menu. The pork with black pudding was so good I had to have it 2 nights in a row!

Camasunary Bothy Isle of Skye.

Visited the Bothy at Camasunary on the Isle of Skye last week on a gorgeous sunny day.

Met a couple of lads from Switzerland who were doing a low level walk over to Loch Coruisk and stayed the night. They were enjoying Scotlands mountains at their best.

The Bothy is a tribute to the work done by the Mountain Bothies Association to maintain these outdoor shelters. The accommodation is perfect although two other visitors preferred to camp not far away.

Fantastic weekend on the Isle of Rum. Great trip over by RIB from Elgol, with this basking shark waiting to meet us at the pier on Rum.

The Isle of Rum is a must visit destination. Take a few days to explore the island. We took tents but there is cheap Bunkhouse accommodation as well as more stylish rooms at Kinloch Castle which looked a real bargain to me.
