It is an ideal base for exploring this area of Northeast Scotland, which hosts the renowned Whisky and Castle Trails, and you can walk the Speyside Way which is a trail that follows the former railway line and is well worthwhile. The Spey is a noted salmon river (permits can be obtained locally) and is host to many species of wild birds which you might see along the many fine walks.
